JELD-WEN Door Solutions was established in 1981 under the name Vest-Wood. At that time, the activity of the company was the production and sale of pinewood products, primarily furniture.

In 1984, Vest-Wood began manufacturing interior panelled doors in spruce and pine and later on, Vest-Wood added interior flush doors and exterior doors to its product range.

During the 90s, Vest-Wood followed a focused strategy on expanding its door business in the Nordic countries and Germany. This was achieved through a combination of organic growth and acquisition-led growth. Since 2000, the Vest-Wood Group has concentrated its operations within the door business.

Vest-Wood was listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange in 1993. In the spring of 2002 a consortium of investors acquired Vest-Wood and delisted the company from the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.

In 2006, Vest-Wood was bought by the American door and window producer JELD-WEN Inc., and changed name to JELD-WEN Door Solutions in October 2007.

As of January 2009 UK and France was re-organized under the executive board of JELD-WEN Door Solutions to a new and stronger european unit. By the gathering of all the European units under common European management the name JELD-WEN Europe is used regarding the overall organizational unit.
